Fundraising for Dale’s Pet Connection Memorial
It is almost time to start raising funds for Dale Campbell’s Forever Pet Connection Memorial Fund, in memory of my late husband, who passed very suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack on November 20. The fund will benefit pets in foster care and sanctuary, at The Pet Connection, a non-profit rescue in the Kansas City area. We have a lot of money to raise, but I have no doubt our community will help.
The Pet Connection takes in homeless animals from around the region. In many cases, the pets are supposed to have sponsors, either individuals or other rescues. In some cases, the sponsorships fall through. This happened so often last year that The Pet Connection drained $8,592 from its emergency fund and that needs to be replenished so they can continue helping pets this year.
Here are just a few of the pets that were helped:
Nani
Luci
Grover
There are many more, but you get the idea. Dale was such a special person. He never once balked at picking up or taking in a stray. The only thing he said when I turned around to go back and get Sweet Sade Sue after we saw her being dumped on the eve of our 300 mile move to Our Little House was, “I was just wondering how long it would take you to turn around.”
When we already had 5 dogs in 480-square feet, Dale called me one rainy, cold September evening and said, “Do you want a beagle?” He’d almost ran over a dog running down the middle of the blacktop two miles from our house. That little guy turned out to be our Dexter, who has brought me extra comfort in these two months since we lost our Dale.
In honor of Dale’s birthday on February 12, I will be launching a Facebook fundraiser on Friday, February 1 on our Facebook page, but if you do not have Facebook and you’d like to contribute $1, $5, $10 or any amount to help Dale’s fund reach its goal, you can do it directly from The Pet Connection website or send a check. Please make sure to include a note that the money is to be directed toward Dale Campbell’s Forever Pet Connection Memorial Fund.
There will also be an online auction on February 15th, in addition to their annual fundraiser, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, February 15 at Unique Finds, a shop in the Kansas City metro. I am donating a weekend writers retreat to be spent during a weekend in the Belle Writers Studio and Reader’s Digest is donating three copies of the paperback version of “Living Large in Our Little House: Thriving in 480-Square Feet with Six Dogs, a Husband and One Remote.” The book will be released on March 12 (they will mail the auction winner’s copies) with a special memorial to Dale included. I will provide a link to the auction when I have it.
If you’d like to mail a tax deductible donation to The Pet Connection, please add a note that it is to go toward Dale Campbell’s Forever Pet Connection Memorial Fund:
