Hooking the Old and Making it New Again

Last fall, when our daughter, Steffi, came to visit, she only had one complaint about The Belle Writer Studio, there was no place to hang her clothes or her jacket. We’d not had any cold-weather visitors to Our Little House, so hadn’t really thought about it.

After Dale passed, and I had a wealth of friends and family staying with me to help me through the gloomy days of winter, I knew I had to do something to get at least a coat rack over in the studio.

At first, I looked online for coat racks that would match the cabin décor. Then I thought better of it. I had told Mike, my god brother, that I probably had anything I would ever need stored someplace in the storage barn on our property.

I remembered a favorite hall tree that Dale and I had purchased when we bought our home in Kansas City. I’d always loved it, the hall tree was the focal point of the main hallway in our house for years.

When my sister-in-law, Jennifer, came to visit at the end of December, I asked her to help me haul it down to the studio. It was still in good shape, but had a little mold. Thankfully, we had a warm day and I was able to wash it down with a vinegar and water solution and allow it to dry.

Good as new and when my Australian sister, Angela, came for a visit, she had hooks on which to hang her clothes and coat.

The studio is an eclectic blend of décor anyway, with the same dark cherry vanity in the bathroom, so it does really match.

More importantly, I have a piece I love that brings good memories each time I hang a dog leash or my coat on it when working in the studio.
