There is nothing like the peace of a country home. It seems you had the same idea as a lot of other folks, including Carl and me. In many ways, I wish we were still there, but the work just overwhelmed us after twelve years, and we couldn't do it alone anymore, especially only part-time, so we sold our 120 acres and came back to a mere five, which now also seems too much.

I guess the moral is, enjoy it while you can. It's precious!

Good hearing from you, Charlotte! Would love to see you down here this fall. Good luck on finishing your remodel. Can't wait to see your house too.

Your house looks beautiful. Mike and i are almost done with our remodel and love living on the water. Hope to be done by the end of the month. Maybe we can get down and see your place before the weather gets bad.

How lucky you are to be surrounded by such beauty and peace. I can see how it would "suck the chaos of the real world away." Things seem to come into focus when the only sounds and sights are of nature. An appreciation for just being alive is much easier to come by, when you are lulled to sleep by whippoorwills and hooting owls. Very nice blog!

I was vaccinated early against thinking that anything is "the end of the world".
I felt as if it was the end of the world when my mother died while I was a a teenager. I took over her chores for the family. Rather ineptly, as I recall.
But life went on unfolding before me and time does allow adjustment to terrible losses.
My husband was self employed until he retired at eighty-one. We never had a steady, reliable paycheck, rather it was "feast or famine" yet we reared five children all of whom we put through college (although they paid for their graduate degrees).
We continue to survive and enjoy the adventures that life brings.
Life is meant to be lived; enjoyed when possible and during difficult times, allowing our souls to increase in compassion and perseverance. Life also gives us the ability to laugh at ourselves.
Find something silly to laugh about, or if that unsolicited advice doesn't help remember how very many people think of you with love.
